Group Tours

The Eudora Welty House is happy to arrange group tours for members of the general public and for education-related visits. The museum welcomes groups with a variety of interests and backgrounds including book clubs, garden societies, senior groups, library associations, garden clubs, literary organizations, and family and alumni reunions. Educational field trips for grades 6-12 and for colleges and graduate schools are also highly encouraged.

The museum defines a group as a party of 13 or more people. Groups with more than 13 people will be divided evenly into smaller groups to insure a more enjoyable visitor experience. Larger, subdivided groups should plan to stay the entire two hour tour period to allow time for everyone to complete the full tour. Because of space and time constraints, the Welty House can only accommodate tour groups of 39 people or less during a single tour period. For groups larger than 39, two tour times must be reserved.

PLEASE NOTE: Reservations for group tours must be made a minimum of two weeks in advance and are subject to availability. Because March, April, and May are especially busy, we recommend that tour groups interested in visiting during these months make reservations well in advance.

The Education and Visitors Center

Visitors should check in at the front door of the Education and Visitors Center (EVC) at 1109 Pinehurst Street. Tours begin in the Center with an orientation film. Temporary and permanent exhibits about Eudora Welty are on display. The EVC also has public restrooms and a small gift shop with books, postcards, and other Welty-related items.

The Education and Visitors Center is handicapped accessible. Parking is available in the EVC driveway. Because of the historic nature of the Eudora Welty House, it does not have an accessible entrance ramp or an elevator to the second floor. Visitors who are unable to use stairs can view scrapbooks and a video tour of the house. The Welty Garden is accessible from the gravel driveway but some areas within the garden have rough terrain.
