While his work was not widely known during his lifetime, George Ohr (1857-1918) is now considered one of the United States’ finest artist-potters. The Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi is dedicated to promoting his work and legacy.
1883: Natchez Seminary becomes Jackson College
The school was relocated from Natchez to a site just north of the Jackson city limits, where Millsaps College is today. It was later moved to a 150-acre site in West Jackson and became Jackson State University in 1974.
