  • Saturday, May 5, 10–11:30 a.m. (ages 6–8) and 2–3:30 p.m. (ages 9–12) at Historic Jefferson College. EXPLORE! Bees. Children will learn about the life cycle of bees, taste some honey and make a bee pin to take home. Parents and grand-parents are always welcome to stay and learn. $10 pre-registration required.   • Saturday, May 12, 1–3 p.m. at Historic Jefferson College. EXPLORE! History:  Early American Weapons. Original and replica early American weapons will be on display throughout the afternoon.   • Saturday, May 19, 8:45 a.m.5 p.m. at Historic Jefferson College. Big Yam Potatoes Old Time Music Concert and Fiddle Contest. June

  • Tuesday-Friday, June 5-8, 9 a.m.–noon at Historic Jefferson College. Pioneer Camp I. Children ages 7-9 learn about Pioneer life in the early 1800s. The day camp features hands-on activities such as quilting, soap-making, animal life, and frontier camp.   • Wednesday-Friday, June 6-8, 1–4 p.m. at Historic Jefferson College. Frontier Survival Camp. Children ages 10-14 will learn hands-on skills needed by frontiersmen (and women) to survive the wilds of Mississippi in the 18th & 19th centuries, including archery, hunting, tanning hides, map and compass reading and more!  Cost is $25, pre-registration is required.  For more information call 601-442-2901 or email Jefferson College.

July

  • Wednesday–Friday, July 11–13, 9 a.m.–noon at Historic Jefferson College. Civil War Adventure Camp. Young Civil War enthusiasts ages 8-12 are encouraged to sign up for this camp for a unique look at the Civil War from a soldier’s point of view.  Boys and girls will learn how to drill and parade, get a black powder rifle demonstration, and learn about the gear necessary for survival while in the military.  Cost is $25, pre-registration is required.  For more information call 601-442-2901 or email Jefferson College.

  • Tuesday-Friday, July 24-27, 9 a.m.–noon at Historic Jefferson College. Naturalist Camp. Children ages 9-12 will get a close up look at insects, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, bugs, and plants through hands-on projects and observation in the field. September

  • Thursday-Friday, September 20–21, at Historic Jefferson College. Pioneer Days. Over 20 demonstrators present information about Pioneer life to school groups.  Topics include furniture making, quilting, story-telling, fiddling, pioneer toys and much more! School groups wishing to schedule a time slot for Pioneer Days should contact Kay McNeil at kmcneil@mdah.state.ms.us.

October

  • Thursday, October 25, 6:30 p.m. at Historic Jefferson College. Ghost Tales around the Campfire. Families are invited to listen to (not too) spooky tales around the bonfire at Bring a chair or blanket. Free of charge.  For more information call 601-442-2901 or email Jefferson College.

November

  • Saturday-Sunday, November 10-11, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at Historic Jefferson College. Wirt Adams Raid into Natchez Civil War Reenactment. Reenactors from around the south gather to recreate Wirt Adams’ raid into Natchez.  The public is welcome to attend and watch the festivities as both “Yankees” and “Rebs” reenact the battle in the “bowl.”  There’ll be plenty of cannons and black-powder muskets firing, cavalry galloping and infantry advancing!  For more information call 601-442-2901 or email Jefferson College.

December
