History Is Lunch: George Howell

Tuesday, May 21, noon–1 p.m. at the William F. Winter Archives and History Building. As part of the History Is Lunch Series, retired Ingalls Shipbuilding vice president and general counsel George W. Howell will discuss how Mississippi won out over Florida and landed the “Shipyard of the Future” in 1967. Howell will also present items related to this historic event, including photographs, color slides, audio tapes, files, and other items, to the state archives for preservation. Young Civil War enthusiasts ages 8-12 are encouraged to sign up for this camp for a unique look at the Civil War from a soldier’s point of view. Boys and girls will learn how to drill and parade, get a black powder rifle demonstration, and learn about the gear necessary for survival while in the military.
