  • Saturday, May 4, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. at the Old Capitol Museum. Capturing the Capitol. In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Union Army capturing Jackson during the Civil War, Union reenactors capture the statehouse and camp on the Old Capitol Green.   • Saturday, May 4, 1 p.m. at Winterville Mounds. First Annual Winterville Knapp-In.  Knappers from around the country will gather to trade tools and demonstrate the ancient techniques. For those interested in participating, flint knap kits will be available for sale. Life into Fiction: The Murder of Medgar Evers and “Where is the Voice Coming From?” The exhibit will examine how that event impelled Eudora Welty to write one of the most gripping and political stories of her career, as well as the repercussions Welty faced after her story was published in The New Yorker. Pages from Welty’s original manuscript draft, the July 1963 issue of The New Yorker, in which the story was published, photographs, and other related artifacts will be featured.   • Tuesday, May 21, noon–1 p.m. at the William F. Winter Archives and History Building. As part of the History Is Lunch Series, retired Ingalls Shipbuilding vice president and general counsel George W. Howell will discuss how Mississippi won out over Florida and landed the “Shipyard of the Future” in 1967. As part of the Archaeology Program series, Sara Hahn, archaeologist with Coastal Environments, Inc., will present an illustrated talk on her recent archaeological investigations at Windsor Ruins.  Hahn’s team exposed for the first time the massive below-ground footings that support the Windsor columns.   • June 3–25, 7 a.m.–3 p.m. at Winterville Mounds.
