Newly scanned Geological Survey quad maps, focusing on the southern and coastal counties, are available to view online! Archives staff scanned and linked the following maps to their online catalog records. Click the links below to go that map’s catalog record, then click “Link to Electronic Resource” to view the map as a Zoomify JPEG file.
According to Jane Phillips, curator of all things “published” in the archives collection, there are 1,287 quad maps in the MDAH collection, dating back to 1893. Many of the maps are from the 1930s, 40s and 50s and were completed by the U.S. Geological Survey, but some are from the military. You can browse all of their online catalog records by entering “MA/QUAD” (the first part of quad map call numbers) as the catalog search term and under Search Type, select “Browse List of Call Numbers starting with…”
