The reading rooms in the William F. Winter Archives and History Building are open to the public at no charge, with experienced staff to assist researchers.

Off-site patrons may find many answers through the Ready Reference Help Desk, available by telephone at 601-576-6876 or by FAX at 601-576-6964. The Help Desk provides quick answers to basic questions using available reference works and finding aids. Requests requiring further research must be submitted in writing.

Archives staff will conduct one hour of research free of charge for Mississippi residents. These requests may be sent via email, but please include a Mississippi mailing address to which the findings will be sent.

A $27 fee is charged for one hour of staff research conducted for out-of-state residents. Write a letter in which you state your question clearly and provide as many pertinent details as possible, and mail with a check or money order for $27 payable to “MDAH, Archives and Records Services,” to:
