Volunteer at the Eudora Welty House
The Eudora Welty House, built in 1925, interprets the importance of Welty’s literary legacy thereby encouraging the love of reading and literature in others, developing an appreciation of the arts, and inspiring the creative endeavors of future artists and writers. The Eudora Welty House is one of the most intact literary house museums in the United States and a National Historic Landmark.
Currently, this museum is seeking volunteer guides.
Volunteers partner with MDAH employees to serve as guardians of our state’s history. From behind-the-scenes to up-close and personal, there very well may be a volunteer opportunity that is a match for you. Our department strives to maintain a community-based volunteer resource that is diverse, knowledgeable, talented, and skilled.
The rewards and benefits of volunteering with us are many. There is much prestige and honor serving as one of our ambassadors to people from many cultures. Museum Division volunteers receive a 15% discount on most merchandise at Mississippi History Store locations (Old Capitol Museum, Eudora Welty House, and through mail orders). Active volunteers are included in volunteer appreciation activities provided by the Museum Division and the site(s) with which you are volunteering. Sometimes volunteer opportunities are available within other divisions of the department. Appropriate volunteer candidates are referred directly to the person who supervises these projects.
