The Elbert R. Hilliard Oral History Award will be awarded as merited to the most outstanding oral history project.

The award honors Elbert R. Hilliard, who retired in 2004 after thirty-one years as director of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. Hilliard continues to serve as the volunteer secretary-treasurer of the Mississippi Historical Society.

Individuals, organizations, and associations are eligible for this prize.  The oral history award will recognize oral history projects exemplifying a distinguished collection, high-quality preservation, and proper use of oral history.  Submit nominations and supporting materials for projects to be considered by  December 1, 2014, to Oral History Committee, Mississippi Historical Society, P. O. Box 571, Jackson, MS  39205-0571. The physical address is 200 North Street, Jackson, MS  39201.  If merited, the award will be presented at the annual meeting of the Mississippi Historical Society, which will be held March 5-7, 2015, in Corinth.

Project considerations submitted after December 1 will be held for the following year’s competition.  Projects should adhere to the principles and standards of the Oral History Association.
