The Mississippi Historical Society invites nominations for The John K. Bettersworth Award for an outstanding History Teacher.

The John K. Bettersworth Award is given annually to an outstanding teacher of middle school or high school history in Mississippi.  The winning teacher receives a $300 cash award, is invited to attend the annual meeting of the Mississippi Historical Society as the Society’s guest, and is provided a complimentary one-year membership in the Society.

The award memorializes John K. Bettersworth, the distinguished historian and author who served as professor and administrator at Mississippi State University for almost forty years.  Dr. Bettersworth also served as president of the Mississippi Historical Society and as a longtime member of the Board of Trustees of the Department of Archives and History.
