Mississippi Hall of Fame Portrait Dedication: Lucy Sommerville Howorth
Sunday, November 17, 2 p.m. at the Old Capitol Museum. Mississippi Hall of Fame Portrait Dedication. The portrait of Lucy Sommerville Howorth will be dedicated to the Mississippi Hall of Fame. Howorth was a lifelong activist for women’s rights. In 1931 she was elected to Mississippi House of Representatives. She was later appointed to the Board of Appeals of the Veterans Administration by President Franklin Roosevelt and then became the first woman General Counsel of the War Claims Commission. Howorth died in 1997 at the age of 102.
