Civil War Sites

Working with the National Park Service, MDAH provides technical assistance to state and local preservation groups that are interested in developing the state's Civil War resources. MDAH offers assistance in identifying, documenting, preserving, and interpreting these sites.

Specifically, the Civil War Sites Program has been actively engaged in the acquisition of Civil War battlefield properties through the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which is administered by the American Battlefield Protection Program of the National Park Service. Among the partners in this effort are the Civil War Preservation Trust, the Conservation Fund, and local preservation advocates in Corinth, Baldwyn, Okolona, Raymond, and Iuka.
