This twelve-page document in Series 608: Miscellaneous Civil War Documents lists African American slaves impressed to work on the fortifications near Columbus, Mississippi, during February and March 1863 by Headquarters, 4th Brigade, Mississippi State Troops. Each page includes counties and dates of impressment, slave owners' names, and the slaves' names, ages, complexions, and heights. Any implements brought by the slaves are also cited. The counties represented are Chickasaw, Clarke, Jasper, Kemper, Lauderdale, Lowndes, Neshoba, Newton, Noxubee, Oktibbeha, Smith, and Wayne.
