MDAH Programs Draw Thousands of People

One of the highest priorities at MDAH is to provide first-rate educational programming at our public sites and at other locations around the state. Highlights this past year include the annual Natchez Powwow at Grand Village of the Natchez Indians, which drew more two thousand people one weekend in March 2005 for a festival featuring Native American music, dancing, food, and crafts.

Participants brought hundreds of items to be identified by experts at the Old Capitol Museum's Personal Treasures: Their Identification and Care on June 3-4, 2005. Experts identified objects brought in by the public and offered tips on how to care for and preserve them. Handouts listing professional conservators, catalogs of archival materials, and other resources were also available free of charge.

More than one hundred people attended a workshop on historic windows held in Jackson in January 2005. Experts offered practical advice on repairing and restoring both wooden and metal windows, which are central to the historic character of older buildings.
