African American Civil War Program Oct. 30 at HJC
“It’s important to tell the African American story of the Civil War,” said Clark Burkett, Historic Jefferson College historian. “This program shows how African Americans helped bring about their own liberation.” A children’s soldier camp will begin at 10:30 a.m. and a games activity camp will begin at noon and run throughout the program. The event is sponsored by the Friends of Forks of the Roads Society Inc and the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. In addition, a Civil War seminar about the role of African American soldiers will be presented Friday, October 29, noon–5 p.m. in the City Council Chambers in Natchez.
