MHRAB Resources: GrantsNational Historical Publications and Records Commission
NHPRC annually awards grants for a variety of projects that assist archives through a network of state partners edit and publish historical records of national importance preserve and make accessible records and archives. The MHRAB is available to advise institutions about the preparation of proposals. The MHRAB also reviews grant proposals submitted by Mississippi institutions to NHPRC and makes recommendations to the NHPRC for funding. A Partial List of NHPRC-funded Projects in MississippiSince 1964, the NHPRC has awarded $163 million to 4,200 projects in all 50 states and special jurisdictions. The NHPRC has played a unique role in supporting historical records projects of special value to Mississippi, including: African American Business Records – Supported a statewide survey and the organization of a collection of business records and personal papers for twentieth-century African Americans from Mississippi Establish Network of Archives in Mississippi – Supported the establishment and enhancement of archives in several locations, including the Association of American Railroads, Lauderdale County, Mississippi Valley State University, and the University of Mississippi Electronic Records Program – Funded the establishment of an electronic records program to preserve Mississippi’s holdings and to make them more accessible Heritage Support for Mississippi Communities – Supported the preservation of historic records held at smaller Mississippi repositories State Archives – Provided funding to modernize the state archives program, relocate and update its holdings, and prepare for emergencies Local Records in Mississippi – Supported the organization, preservation, management, and accessibility of local records throughout the state Cost of selected projects supported by NHPRC in Mississippi
Territorial Records Inventory Project (TRIP) – Provided funding to review pre-1920 county records in Mississippi's fourteen territorial counties and evaluate microfilmed records held at MDAH. Mississippi municipalities and organizations that have received assistance from the NHPRC
