Author Patti Carr Black is the former director of the Old Capitol Museum, where she curated the first public exhibitions of work by major Mississippi artists such as Walter Anderson and George Ohr. That experience, plus a lifetime devoted to the arts and three years of intensive research for this volume, is reflected in its incisive yet far-ranging narrative. In Art in Mississippi, Black focuses on several hundred significant artists and showcases in full color the work of more than two hundred. Patti Black has written and edited many books dealing with Mississippi art, including Agnes Grinstead Andersons Approaching the Magic Hour: Memories of Walter Anderson, Made by Hand: Mississippi Folk Art, Documentary Photographs of Mississippi during the 1930s, and Sea, Earth, Sky: The Art of Walter Anderson.
